Indonesia English Language Study Program – IELSP (Batch – 4)

Indonesia English Language Study Program (Batch – IV) is a scholarship program offered to undergraduate students in any university in Indonesia (the 3rd year-above) to join an eight-week intensive English language courses at colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Applicants must:
• be 19-24 years of age
• be an undergraduate student at least on the fifth semester (3rd year) in any field of study from any university in Indonesia (NOT GRADUATE YET)
• be proficient in English with a minimum TOEFL®ITP score of 470 (NOT A PREDICTION TEST)
• be committed in returning to their home universities immediately after the program
• indicate a serious interest in learning about the United States
• have a sustained high level of academic achievement
• have had no prior study in the United States or elsewhere outside of Indonesia
• be mature, responsible, independent, confident, open-minded, tolerant, thoughtful and inquisitive
• be willing and able to full participate in an intensive academic program

    aku lihat ada program untuk batch 5, aku pengeb ikut partisipasi dlam program ini, hanya saja aku blum tau apakah TOEFL ku capai sgtu atau g, coz sblumnya aku blm prnh ikut test TOEFL, tapi aku dah sering ikut klas conversation,apakah TOEFL ini jadi syarat mutlak untuk menang/ tidaknya padahal yang saya tangkap ini adalah program untuk melatih kemampuan bahasa inggris kita.nmohon bantuannya..

    It takes a great deal of courage for a person to leave his or her family and start life all over gain in another country. The person not only must face many changes alone but also separate from friends and rely on letters as a means of sharing thoughts. The new environment and the new setting make even the bravest individual feels scared, as he or she encounters many sudden changes and undergoes many kinds of struggles in a short period of time. Despite these difficulties, going abroad as an immigrant has many benefits. To go abroad gives a person the chance to see the world, to face new challenges, to make new friends, and to gain more knowledge about people and places. Before I came to the United States , I had had many expectations. I thought that life in this country would be similar to life in my country, Indonesia . However, after being here for two months, I have come to the conclusion that life in the United States is entirely different from what I had expected.

    This is my last day in South Carolina , the United States of America . I do not know what my real feelings are. Actually, I’m excited, but I’m also sad. Moreover, I am happy, nervous, sorry; meanwhile. I am excited, because I have studied at English Programs for Internationals and finished my study well. In addition, in South Carolina I have gotten a lot of the valuable things. For example, I have studied how to manage my time, respect to other cultures, understand each other; make good relationships among students, teachers, and so on.

    America is not good, not bad, but different. May be you can’t understand what I mean with different. Americans are very different from other people. They are not Chinese, not Arabic, not Indonesian, not Korean, and not English. Americans are Americans. Furthermore, they can be themselves. I tell you that if we go to the United States , we will meet almost all people from the world. They bring their own cultures and lifestyles to the United States then they make connections with Americans. Amazing, but real; Americans are not influenced by them and their cultures. Americans do not cheat other’s cultures. Americans are Americans. They are not good, not bad, but different.

    How time flies..!! Tomorrow morning I depart to my country, Indonesia . I have had the greatest days that I have ever had in my life. In addition, it changes all of my life, because I have new experience, new life, new friends, new teachers and new atmosphere. I also meet a lot of great people from worldwide; meanwhile. Furthermore, I know many their cultures and life styles. Fantastic..!!! How could it happen..?? Eight weeks have given me an opportunity to improve my English proficiency. I had never gotten opportunity to study English with native speakers before I came to the U.S. During I stay in the U.S.A, I have studied some English skills, like grammar writing, reading vocabulary, and speaking listening. They are very helpful for Academic purposes.

    However, it is not the ending of my struggles. I realize there are still many responsibilities that I face in my life. Because I have studied in the United States is not only for my own success but also for my family, my university, nations, my country, and my religion. I have to give my best for them. I can help my friend to improve their English abilities, tell them my experiences, and give them what I have had in the United States . I know that not everybody has opportunity like I have had. But, everybody can enjoy my experiences and my knowledge.

    IELSP is the greatest program among what I have followed. It has changed my mindset only for two months. It has improved my English proficiencies; meanwhile. It is very helpful and very useful for me, for my education, and for my Institute in Padang . For perfection, IELSP can make Pre Departure Orientation to be more effective for the participants like trainings of critical thinking, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual motivation. Additionally, when IELSP recruits the participants, IELSP can make understanding and abilities of performing the Indonesian cultures to be some of the qualifications. I mean that participants not only have good English but also understand their own cultures and can perform them, like traditional dances and songs. As a result, the participants of IELSP are able to promote the Indonesian cultures to Internationals.

    At last I would like to say thanks very much to IELSP and to all people in the IIEF.
