Research Doctoral Scholarship – University of Teesside

The University of Teesside is offering 12 full-time Research Doctoral Scholarships across a broad range of subject areas including: computing, social science, health sciences, engineering and history. The scholarships are aligned to key areas of research strength within the Institute of Digital Innovation, the Institute for Health Sciences and Social Care, the Institute for Innovation & Development in Engineering and Science and the Centre for Regional and Local Historical Research. The awards will be for a period of three years and include fees (home/EU or international rate) and an annual stipend of £12,600. Successful applicants should be in a position to take up the scholarships in January 2008 or shortly thereafter.

Research theme: Entertainment computing
1. Security in distributed, multi-user games
2. A new development and deployment paradigm for pervasive multi-user games

Research theme: Web integration in Social Context
3. Gender, older people and Web 2.0 connections
4. Framework, models and tools for Web 2.0 development involving older users

Research theme: The assessment of food intake
5. The association between weight status, dietary intake, physical activity levels and mental well-being and performance in school children
6. Assessment of fluoride intake
7. An assessment of practices and attitudes related to food intake, physical activity and weight gain during pregnancy

Research theme: Sustainable technologies
8. Biotechnological approaches for processing of electronic materials and devices
9. Biomass digestion and exploitation
10. Advanced catalysis for the conversion of biomass-derived “syngas” to fuels and chemicals
11. Miniaturised bioreactor with downstream processing

Research Doctoral Scholarships applicants should have at least an upper second class honours degree or equivalent qualification and ideally a postgraduate qualification. The minimum English language entry level is IELTS 6.5 with no grade below 6.0 or equivalent.

    I am interested in doing a research paper for my PHD in business centering on the application of hypnotherapy in business and as a management tool for companies continually under high stress for meeting conpany business and finacial goals.

    I currently have a DBA from an accredited university, California Coast University with a GPA of 3.56, a law degree, and have performed group seminars using hypnosis. I am a Master Certified Hypnotherapist and believe that hypnosis can be quite an effective tool for managers who have to deal with behavior modification of organzations on a daily basis.

    Summary :

    The Egyptian black sand is found along the north coast. It has several economic minerals. Ilmenite is the main mineral of economic minerals in Egyptian black sand. The ilmenite ore is low grade, because it has less than 50% TiO2 and relatively high content of Cr2O3 and V2O5. Treatment of ilmenite by smelting process is highly recommended.
    The effects of the following parameters are studied to produce titania slag and pig iron. The affecting parameters are assay and type of carbon, smelting time, input current, voltage, fluxing agents, compacting effect of the charge, the effect of ore type and scaling up the charges.
    It is found that, the produced iron has acceptable specifications. The best iron yield is 94%. The produced slag reaches 78% TiO2 with acceptable speculations.

    Metallurgist at Nuclear Materials Authority (NMA) from 30/6/2002. Training on ore dressing for black sand minerals, building laboratory arc furnace, high temperature process, ilmenite smelting.
